The Big Bucks Data Center Crowd Wants to Bury Us in Rosy Sounding Lies
Fun Fact #1:
There is almost 40 million more square feet of data centers ALREADY in the planning process which are WITHIN the Prince William County Data Center Overlay Zone. That is 140% of the Prince William Digital Gateway (PWDG) square footage.
The Dominion Power website claims that about 11,000 Mega Watts of power is the current consumption of electricity for the entire Commonwealth of Virginia.
Adding the PWDG and the Data Centers already approved or planned in the Data Center Overlay Zone electricity load will add 15,000 Mega-Watts for Data Centers ONLY in Western PW County.
That’s almost 40% more power than the WHOLE Commonwealth of Virginia consumes!
Fun Fact #2:
The Dominion Power website cites that North Anna Nuclear Generator powers 450,000 homes.
That would mean that PWDG will require the power equivalent to between 1.5 million and 2 million homes just for these new data centers.
More power lines crisscrossing our viewsheds and many more power substations popping up all around our neighborhoods
In simple terms, that means we will need many more nuclear power plants -- and all of the money it costs to build them -- just to feed this energy hog data centers.
The problem is demand for more electricity will drive our power bills through the roof.

We have listened to comments from Pageland folks for many months. First I would say, take their comments with skepticism, as they are going to make millions from selling their land. Second, the Pageland folk don’t care about PWC or schools. They will take their money and move away. Third, the Pageland folk are throwing out arguments to divert the attention of government officials away from real issues! Typical diversion tactics. Some comments are weird, like “golf balls in Little Bull Run (weird). Some are lies, like Data Centers will HELP STORMWATER . We need to listen to facts. We need to listen to experts.
